Cheri Cheri - Queen of Everything
C
heri Clark is a native Oregonian who loves the cool weather and rain of the Northwest. Her favorite seasons are fall and winter; perfect sweater weather! Cheri is a self-taught knitter that has been cranking out hats, sweaters and purses since 1984! To say that knitting is Cheri’s passion is an understatement. She knits all the time, everywhere. Work, home, planes, cars, movie theatres; Cheri says, “If I can’t knit there, it’s probably somewhere I don’t want to be”!

Cheri is a passionate knitter and compassionate teacher. Students use words like, “patient”, “sweet”, "knowledgeable" and “amazing” to describe her. She is an expert instructor who is incredibly intuitive and encouraging. Cheri says, “Discover your gift, and share it with others.” Cheri’s gift is not only knitting, but helping others to get started and enjoy this gratifying art form. One student said, "I learned more in one of Cheri's classes than the past 10 classes I've taken".

Sign up for one of Cheri's classes and you'll be encouraged not only in your craft, but in your heart. Cheri was once asked if everyone coming into the shop was a friend of hers; she replied, "The first time they come in, they may not be a friend; but after that, they are"!

BradBrad - VP of Everything
Brad Clark is a world-famous unknown artist; author; speaker and humorist. He designed and created The Naked Sheep logo and web site; the Portland Yarn Crawl logo; and is the VP of Marketing, Promotions and Public Relations at the shop. His paintings are on display in the shop.

KristinKristin - Head Purl Girl, Chief Hook and Needle Watcher, Sheep School Administrator, Shop Manager, Teacher
Kristin Kelly is an enthusiastic knitter from Portland, Oregon
. Before becoming a knitting trainer, Kristin was a trainer for an international software company.  She has a strong love of learning, teaching, and, of course, knitting.  She enjoys knitting endless goodies for her husband and two children (and neighbors and friends and relatives and acquaintances…).

Kristin can be found in the shop several days a week. She is a great resource for your fiber questions and sports the coolest pointy pink shoes in the neighborhood!

CraigCraig grew up in Texas very close to his Mommaw Ruth who spent much of her free time creating fab pieces of art by knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Being the creative person hat he is , she was able to teach Craig to crochet before he was 5. He then spent weekends making chains (aka ropes) to climb mountains, pull various farm equipment with the truck, and tie up bank robbers. She instilled the interest and love for fiber arts in his soul.

LaVonLaVon - Aide, Manager, Mother; Keeper of the Pliers
LaVon Murphy, a former Congressional Aide, Cash Manager and Database Tester, has reinvented herself yet again as a self-taught beading maven and is currently employed as a Real Estate hotographer. LaVon was taught to knit by a dear friend who liberated her from the need to follow the “rules” of knitting with the simple statement: “You are the boss of your knitting!” Now she dives into her knitting with reckless abandon and usually has three or four projects “on-needles” at once.

Although LaVon enjoys spending as much time as possible with her husband Bradley and son Logan (who insists that yarn “makes her crazy”), she can’t wait for everyone to go to bed so that she can stay up and knit late into the night.

NatalieNatalie - Instructor, Blogger, Amigurumi Creator
Natalie Laderas-Kilkenny is an instructional designer by day and fiber-addicted needle artist by night. Her interests include Amigurumi toys, past and present Pop Culture and small dogs. You can read more about her adventures and misadventures with fiber on her blog: I am addicted.

MeghanMeghan learned to knit in middle school from her mother, but after a few years informed her that knitting was boring (irreverent child) and moved on to other teenage past times. She started knitting again as a young adult and is now hopelessly hooked.
LeannLeann was taught by her Grandma to knit. Her first project was a scarf so riddled with holes that it ended up being something only a mother could love. A stint living in Norway in college meant sweater knitting was a necessity for self-defense from the long, cold winter. Leann has attended Meg Swanson's knitting camp and immediately subscribed to all things Meg and Elizabeth Zimmerman.
Chrissy Gardiner learned to knit from her grandmother at age 10. Chrissy dabbled in the fiber arts for years before discovering her local yarn shop and the lovely luxury yarns therein. Knitting became her new obsession. After her kids were born, she left the corporate world for good and, thanks to her LYS, discovered that wool is not always scratchy.

Chrissy's designs can be found in many past issues of Interweave Knits as well as various pattern compilation books, knitting pattern websites, sock clubs and yarn company pattern lines. She published her first book, Toe-Up! Patterns and Worksheets to Whip Your Sock Knitting Into Shape, in the summer of 2009 and is currently hard at work on her next book, Indie Socks. She is a member of The National Needlearts Association and The Association of Knitwear Designers. She keeps her skills sharp and gets feedback from all sorts of knitters while teaching at shops and events around the country.

Angela Davis, a Craft Yarn Council of America certified hand knitting instructor, has been knitting since she taught herself from a Coates and Clarke book when she was a little girl. The joy of sharing the skill with others motivated Angela to continue learning and teaching.

Angela is a popular guest teacher at yarn shops and conferences, has taught knitting on European and Japanese tour buses, and even started a knitting-for-charity club at an inner-city high school in Los Angeles. She has knit props for the popular Mad Men television show, and is currently preparing her first set of patterns for original designs to be available as downloads on Ravelry.com.

Angela was a teacher at the Sock Summit 2009 in Portland, Oregon, The National Needlearts Association 2010 trade show in Long Beach, CA, and Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, OR, 2010. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and three sons, and looks forward to teaching knitting for many, many years to come.

ElaineElaine - Interior Decorator, Chef, Designer, Instructor
Elaine Marcus started knitting for real about the time she moved to Portland in 2001, and has been teaching for several years.  She loves felting, lace work, socks and complicated sweaters, but will knit anything once. A special interest is modifying existing patterns to fit actual specific people. She enjoys teaching, and feels it is crucial for her to make more passionate knitters, since that way she'll be sure there are people who won't look at her funny when all she wants to talk about is, you know, knitting. When not knitting, she shops for yarn, bakes, cans jams and pickles, decorates her house, and, oh yeah, works when she can't get out of it.
Riley the Super ChiRiley - Shop Dog, Top Dog, Sheep Dog
He was a full size Doberman-Rottweiler mix, but fell into the washer and was felted to the size of a Chihuahua. Riley is the official greeter, snuggler and crumb catcher at The Naked Sheep Knit Shop. He has over two dozen sweaters. He was born June 23, 2003; and holds a SALE at the shop each year on his Birthday. He can "stay" and "pray"; and hates wheels of all kinds. Come into the shop and say, "Hi". But be warned, he can be ornery; and only close friends can get away with touching his head or face. Grrrrrrrr
